My beauty must haves for 2013

19 Feb

Winter does mad things to your skin. (So does Summer but that’s another post waiting to happen!)

I have tried quite a few Make up products over 2012 and 2013 to cover up/ hide/camouflage my pale and dry complexion but I have now realised that I was going about it all wrong! Instead of concentrating on which foundation would cover up my rosey red cheeks I needed to sort out the skin underneath!

To be honest – I normally have very good skin so I knew that my complexion was not down to any underlying disorders like Acne rosacea or psoriosis which people either forget or do not know can be helped with medication; Metronidazole 0.75% can be obtained by your GP to help rosacea for instance. There are also Make up techniques you can use such as using green concealer underneath your foundation to take the majority of the redness away! I will go into this in more detail on another post 🙂

So… I have only ever used Simple products such as face wash, day and night face cream and their under eye cream (always remember to use a different cream for the delicate area around your eyes!)

I have always had very dry skin around the front part of my cheeks and no where else. I normally try and add a thicker cream just to this area which does tend to help but since getting lots of new products for Christmas I haven’t needed to!

Peaches and… Clean

This Soap and Glory face wash smells incredible. I don’t think I would recommend it if you have very sensitive skin as you can definitely feel it working away as soon as you put it on damp skin; I lather it up and leave it on for a couple of minutes. Then rinse with warm water. Keep it away from your eye area. My face feels really clean afterwards without it drying out and feeling tight. peaches

*Bev’s tip of the day – I think Salma Hayek does this too**  Always try to wash off your Make-up at the end of the day or night time. Then in the morning I just rinse my face with warm water and no soap or face wash. You don’t really want to take off the layer of natural oil that your face produces during the night – this is a great tip for For dry/ normal skin – however, if you have oily or teenage skin prone to break outs I would still use an anti bacterial face wash in the morning.

Serum

After dabbing my face dry* with a soft towel, I have started to apply a face serum. I only use a pea size amount all over my face and leave on for 5 minutes to soak in before putting my moisturiser on.

*I have dabbed my face instead of rubbed it dry since I was little! Any action that you do a couple of times a day (in my opinion)  could increase giving you wrinkles! So stop rubbing!lacura

The face serum from Aldi (of all places) is amazing!!  it is called ‘Lacura – face Care , Restorative Multi Intensive Serum’ and is a whopping £3.49!!!  It includes Vitamin E and Shea Butter which are great for dry and skin. On the Aldi website it advertises that “Its moisture complex has a 24 hour effect to help improve the skin’s elasticity. When used regularly the skin feels noticeably smoother and tighter.” And I would totally agree. My skin is very much smoother but I do feel it is the combination of serum and moisturiser that has helped!

Moisturiser

Seeing as the serum was such a bargain find I feel this is why I allowed myself the purchase of  a new (Expensive!) moisturiser as well 🙂  I’m (unfortunately) a sucker for packaging, and the Bobbi Brown glass jar and embossed black lid on their Hydrating Gel Cream instantly caught my eye. I wiped a smidge across the back of my hand and the luxurious cream smelled sort of tropical and clean all at the same time, and I was at the till before I knew it – albeit £36 worse off.

Thankfully these new purchases have worked wonders to my dull complexion and I found as soon as I started my new routine I was using less foundation and bronzer daily and I am back to only using BB Cream! (See previous post for more info on BB Cream!)

Well recommended peeps 🙂
